TAB SA Nursery success for Fire Away

Wilgerbosdrift’s promising young stallion Fire Away came up with yet another black-type winner when his two-year-old son Fire Attack ran out a convincing winner of the G2 TAB SA Nursery (1160m), run at Turffontein on Saturday.

Runner up in the Listed HKJC World Pool Event 6 April Storm Bird last time out, the Alec Laird trained Fire Attack turned the tables on his Storm Bird Stakes conqueror Pistol Pete when landing Saturday’s R500 000 feature.

Under Diego De Gouveia, Fire Attack stormed home to claim his biggest win by two and a quarter lengths.

Bred by Ndoro Stud, Fire Attack has now won or finished second in four of his five starts.

Fire Attack, who is out of the Mambo In Seattle mare Bonnie Beers, was a R450 000 buy from the 2023 National Yearling Sale.

His inform sire Fire Away had enjoyed success with another two-year-old one day earlier when Fire Away colt My Best Shot romped home to break his maiden by five and quarter lengths at Fairview on Friday.

Bred by Varsfontein Stud, My Best Shot holds an entry in the Listed East Cape Nursery.
His sire Fire Away, whose first crop included the graded stakes winners Egyptian Mau and My Golly Molly, has 12 lots on offer at the National Yearling Sale.
