Wilgerbosdrift’s deceased sire Soft Falling Rain came up with yet another debut winner, when his three-year-old daughter Bloom scored at Fairview on Friday afternoon.
Bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein, the Alan Greeff trained filly bolted up to win, going away, by two and a quarters over 1200m and Bloom looks unlikely to stop here.
Bloom, who was ridden to victory by Greg Cheyne, is out of the Strike Smartly mare Cuir De Russie.
The filly is the 12th winner to have emerged from Equus Champion Soft Falling Rain’s second crop, now three-year-olds.
This crop also includes G1 Golden Horse Medallion runner up Pray For Rain, Sophomore Sprint third place-getter Purple Cloud, the stakes placed Eternal Hope, and brilliant debut winner Garden Party.
Soft Falling Rain’s progeny have been in good form of late, with the short-lived son of National Assembly also responsible for Gang Leader -who shed his maiden when victorious over 1000m at the Vaal on Thursday.
The Paul Peter trained colt, who was making just his third career start when winning recently, is out of champion Laverna -whose own dam, like Soft Falling Rain, was sired by National Assembly.
