Wilgerbosdrift’s outstanding broodmare Halfway To Heaven achieved another impressive feat when her G1 winning sons Golden Ducat (by Philanthropist) and Rainbow Bridge (by Ideal World) ran first and second in Saturday’s G1 World Sports Betting Champions Cup (1800m) run at Hollywoodbets Greyville this weekend.
Both geldings are trained by Eric Sands, and both the four-year-old Golden Ducat and the six-year-old Rainbow Bridge race for Mike and Norma Rattray.
One of the best three-year-olds of last season, Golden Ducat made it win number three, from nine starts, when besting his older half-brother in Saturday’s Champions Cup. The progressive four-year-old, who was ridden to victory by Donovan Dillon, was claiming his second G1 victory, with Golden Ducat having also triumped in last season’s G1 ARF Commemorative Cape Derby.
His outstanding dam Halfway To Heaven, South Africa’s Broodmare Of The Year in 2018-2019, has had another exceptional year.
The G3 Prix du Cap winning daughter of Jet Master has not only been responsible for three G1 winners over the past 12 months in the form of Rainbow Bridge, Hawwaam and Golden Ducat but her Silvano colt Celestial City made R7 000 000 to top the 2020 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale.
