Fire Away relative off the mark

Wilgerbosdrift’s well bred stallion Fire Away, whose sire War Front came up with his 22nd G1 winner on Saturday, received yet another boost to his stellar pedigree when his close relative Storm At Sea got off the mark over the weekend.

Third on debut, Storm At Sea (a three-year-old daughter of Medaglia D’Oro) got off the mark at just the second time of asking when romping home on Saturday.
Under jockey Gerardo Corrales, Storm At Sea powered home to score by three and a quarter lengths over a mile at Ellis Park on Saturday.

A half-sister to G3 Delta Downs Jackpot Stakes winner Ocho Ocho Ocho, and out of the Horse Chestnut mare Winner, Storm At Sea’s third dam, unbeaten champion and former Broodmare Of The Year, Personal Ensign, also ranks as the granddam of Fire Away.

The latter, winner of three stakes races during his career including the G3 Dixie Stakes, not only shares his outstanding sire War Front with Saturday’s G1 Fourstardave Handicap hero Halladay but also with high-class stallions Declaration Of War and The Factor, as well as the very promising Air Force Blue.

Fire Away’s first foals are arriving now.
