Wilgerbosdrift’s late stallion Soft Falling Rain has made a big impression with his first two-year-olds this season, and the former Equus Champion was represented by his first graded stakes winner when his promising 2yo daughter Montreal Mist won the G2 Gagasi FM Debutante Stakes at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Saturday.
Trained by Sean Tarry, Montreal Mist made it win number three, from just seven starts, when staying on nicely down the inside to score a 0.6 of a length win at the expense of her stable mate Spiritofthegroove. Under jockey Gavin Lerena, the Clifton Stud bred filly powered home to account for some very promising fillies in Saturday’s 1200m feature, and Montreal Mist has now won three of her last four starts.
Montreal Mist is bred on the same Soft Falling Rain/Var cross as the promising and unbeaten colt Al Jahbath.
Soft Falling Rain is also the sire of the consistent Alramz, who caught the eye when finishing third in the G2 Haval Motors South Africa Umkhomazi Stakes on the same card.
Also responsible for Friday’s brilliant debut winner World Radar, Soft Falling Rain has now been responsible for 14 first crop winners, with his other notable performers including G3 Pretty Polly/Listed Ruffian Stakes runner up Gin Fizz.
The former globetrotting star has 14 lots on offer at the 2019 Emperors Palace National 2YO Sale including a colt out of G3 Acacia Handicap winner Amur Affair (Lot 46), a colt (Lot 210) out of champion Laverna, and a colt (Lot 367) who hails from the same family as the likes of Danehill and Northern Dancer.
