Wilgerbosdrift’s promising Distorted Humor stallion Flower Alley has made a most pleasing start with his first South African two-year-olds this season, and the former G1 Travers Stakes winner looks to have a very smart sort on his hands in the form of Alibi Guy.
The latter made it three wins from as many starts when he won a juvenile plate, over 1900m, at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Saturday in convincing style. Under jockey Anton Marcus, Alibi Guy stayed on gamely to post a 0.9 length win over the promising Shango to maintain his unbeaten record.
Bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein, the Mike de Kock trained colt (closely inbred to Forty Niner) was a R450 000 buy from the 2018 Emperors Palace National 2YO Sale.
His sire Flower Alley has another smart two-year-old in his first South African crop in the form Parterre, with the latter finishing a creditable third in Friday’s Listed Champion Juvenile Cup.
To date, Flower Alley has been responsible for seven first crop 2yo winners in his first South African crop with his tally of winners also including G1 contender Keep Smiling and impressive debut winner Rille.
The sire of 40 stakes horses the world over (with this tally including the Kentucky Derby winning champion I’ll Have Another), Flower Alley has 21 lots on offer at the upcoming Emperors Palace National 2YO Sale including a filly (Lot 56) out of G1 SA Fillies Classic winner Athina and a half-brother (Lot 116) to recent G3 Final Fling Stakes winner Platinum Class.
