Wilgerbosdrift’s inform young stallion Fire Away is the sire of high-class filly Luna Halo. The latter claimed her fourth Listed win when she ran out a game winner of the Listed Breeders Guineas (1600m) at Fairview on Friday.
An Eastern Cape champion at two, Luna Halo claimed the seventh win of her 11th race career when landing Friday’s feature race.
Under a great ride from Richard Fourie, the Alan Greeff trained three-year-old dug down deep to put down to win by a head. Bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein, Luna Halo had been named the Eastern Cape’s Champion 2YO Filly of 2022-2023 after winning four of her first five starts.
Luna Halo, who is out of the Captain Al mare Sun Sentinel, was a R160 000 purchase from the 2022 National Yearling Sale. The fiilly’s previous black type wins came in the 2023 Listed East Cape Fillies Nursery, 2023 Listed Dahlia Plate and the 2023 Listed Lady’s Slipper Stakes.
Her G3 Dixie Stakes winning sire Fire Away has had a cracking spell with his recent runners including Listed TAB Spook Express Stakes heroine Explosive Bond and promising two-year-olds Fire Attack and Tintamarre.
Fire Away is a son of War Front, whose more than 100 stakes winners include successful sires Declaration Of War and Lancaster Bomber.
