First stakes winner for Buffalo Bill Cody

Wilgerbosdrift’s well bred young stallion Buffalo Bill Cody came up with his first stakes winner when his unbeaten two-year-old son Pistol Pete romped home to an impressive win in the Listed HKJC World Pool Event 6 April Storm Bird Stakes (1000m) at Turffontein on Saturday.

An impressive winner of his two previous starts, the Tony Peter trained colt defied 60kgs when running out an impressive winner of the 2024 Storm Bird Stakes.
Under Calvin Habib, Pistol Pete was quickly away and he dominated his opponents in Saturday’s R200 000 feature, with Pistol Pete romping home to win as he liked by three and a quarter lengths.

Bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein, Pistol Pete was a R380 000 purchase from the 2023 Cape Yearling Sale.

Pistol Pete is out of the Tiger Ridge mare Oklahoma Sky.
He is not only the first stakes winner for Buffalo Bill Cody, he is also the first winner for his sire.

Buffalo Bill Cody, a winner of six of his ten starts, lacks nothing in terms of pedigree. A son of triple Australian Champion Sire Redoute’s Choice, whose other sire sons include four times Australian Champion Sire Snitzel and prominent South African sire Rafeef, Buffalo Bill Cody is from the same female line as top US stallion Hard Spun.

The latter, who traces back in female line, like Buffalo Bill Cody, to the My Babu mare Luiana. Hard Spun has sired more than 100 stakes winners including such Breeders’ Cup winners as Aloha West and Spun To Run.
