Flower Alley filly lands SA Fillies Nursery

Wilgerbosdrift’s inform sire Flower Alley is having a tremendous run this season, and the former G1 Travers Stakes winner had another big payday at Turffontein on Saturday when his unbeaten daughter Maharanee landed Saturday’s G2 4Racing SA Fillies Nursery over 1160 metres.

The 2022 SA Fillies Nursery was a total triumph for Flower Alley, who is not only sire of the victorious Maharanee but also of None Other, who dead-heated for third place.

A facile winner of her first two starts, the Paul Peter trained two-year-old was all the rage for Saturday’s R300 000 contest with Maharanee eventually going off the hot 4-10 tote favourite.
Under Warren Kennedy, Maharanee raced off the early pace for much of the race before hitting the front some way from home and the pair drew off to win emphatically by six lengths.

It was a smart win from the Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein bred filly, with Maharanee still appearing green in running.

She has now won all three of her starts by an aggregate of nearly 12 lengths.

Out of the Tiger Ridge mare Indira, Maharanee was an R80 000 from the 2021 August Two Year Old Sale.

She is the 31st stakes winner for Flower Alley, whose daughters have been carrying all before them lately.

The previous Saturday, Flower Alley daughters Princess Calla and Opera Glass lifted the G1 HSH Princess Charlene Empress Club Stakes and Listed Racehorse Owners Association Spook Express Stakes respectively.
