Fire Away strikes at National Sale

Wilgerbosdrift’s well performed young sire Fire Away has made a very encouraging start with his first yearlings on sale this year, and the son of War Front was again to the fore at the 2022 National Yearling Sale.

Fire Away, who was the Leading First Season Sire at the Cape Yearling Sale earlier this year, had all 15 of his yearlings on offer sell for a gross total of R4.735 million, with Fire Away’s National Sale yearlings averaging R315 667.

Fire Away’s top lot sold was the Wilgerbosdrift consigned Hope And Dreams (Lot 407) with that colt knocked down to Form Bloodstock for R1.6 million. A son of outstanding broodmare Halfway To Heaven, Hope And Dreams is a half-brother to three G1 winners including reigning South African Horse Of The Year Rainbow Bridge and fellow champion, and Wilgerbosdrift based sire, Hawwaam.

Other lots by Fire Away made R425 000, R420 000 and R400 000 with yearlings by the Wilgerbosdrift sired sold to Dennis Drier, Tony Moodley, Paul Peter and Eric Sands, to name but a few.
Winner of the G3 Dixie Stakes, Fire Away earned over $600 000 during his career and he shares his outstanding sire War Front with the Coolmore based U S Navy Flag -who has made a cracking start with his first two-year-olds this year.

Wilgerbosdrift would like to thank all the buyers at this year’s National Sale who supported them and wish them all the best with their purchases from the 2022 National Yearling Sale.
