Wilgerbosdrift’s promising sire Fire Away looks to have a pair of smart two-year-olds to his name in the form of Spirit Of Levana and French Flame.
The latter pair finished first and second in the second race run at Hollywoodbets Scottsville on Wednesday, with both horses holding feature race entries.
Trained by Glen Kotzen, Spirit Of Levana made it two wins from just three starts when she won Wednesday’s www.tabgold.co.za Juvenile Plate in courageous fashion.
Under Mohammed Hassan Alabdulmalik, the Fire Away filly jumped out to make the running and she duly did so.
Spirit Of Levana kept finding and she held on gamely to best her paternal half-brother French Flame by half a length. French Flame caught the eye in second as he was still very green and ran around in the closing stages.
Her trainer described Spirit Of Levana as a “filly out of the top drawer”, and Wednesday’s winner has been entered in the G1 Thekwini Stakes.
Bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein, Spirit Of Levana is out of the Fort Wood mare Close The Gap.
She was a R300 000 buy from the 2023 Cape Yearling Sale.
Fire Away has some very smart two-year-olds this season, with his juveniles of 2023-2024 also including G2 TAB SA Nursery winner Fire Attack.
