WINNING DEBUT FOR DANCE

The progeny of Wilgerbosdrift’s late sire Tiger Ridge continue to fare well around the country, and the Wilgerbosdrift/Mauritzfontein bred 2yo Folk Dance continued this trend when making a winning debut at Turffontein on Thursday.

Trained by Paul Peter for owners the Hyperpaint Syndicate and George O’Brien, Folk Dance stayed on gamely under Lyle Hewitson to post a 1.1 length win on debut over 1200m.

A R100 000 buy from last year’s National Sale, Folk Dance is out of the unraced Fort Wood mare Liberty Dance.

She is bred on the same Tiger Ridge/Fort Wood cross as former Guineas winner Noah From Goa, now campaigning overseas.

Tiger Ridge, maternal grandsire of this season’s top class filly Orchid Island, is also sire of recent G3 Acacia Handicap winner Nother Russia, who has been supplemented to the R4 000 000 G1 Premier’s Champion Challenge, to be run at Turffontein on Champions Day.
