Weekend double for Fire Away

Wilgerbosdrift’s exciting sire Fire Away continues to come up with good looking winners, and the son of outstanding sire War Front was at it again over the weekend.

Not only did Fire Away filly Rani Of Kittur win at Turffontein on Saturday, but Fire Away two-year-old Ingqwele won a good race at Hollywoodbets Scottsville the following day.
Bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein, three-year-old Rani Of Kittur had shown great promise at two, but suffered a severe injury when contesting the G2 World Sports Betting SA Fillies Nursery.

Trainer Roy Magner did a great job to get her back to form, and Rani Of Kittur appeared to relish the step up to 1800m in Saturday’s Next Turffontein Racemeeting Thursday 27 June FM 77 Divided Handicap.

Under a strong ride from Raymond Danielson, the daughter of Fire Away powered home to win by a neck.

Out of the Tiger Ridge mare Indira, Rani Of Kittur has now won twice from just six starts and she has the scope to build on Saturday’s win.
Fire Away has some very promising two-year-olds this season and his son Ingqwele became his sire’s seventh juvenile winner of 2023-2024 when he won at Hollywoodbets Scottsville.

Under Muzi Yeni, the Mike De Kock trained Ingqwele stayed on gamely to land Sunday’s www.galloptv.co.za Maiden Juvenile Plate (1600m) by just under three-parts of a length, with another son of Fire Away, Burning Man, finishing second.
Bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein, Ingqwele is out of the Trippi mare Dawn Calling.
The Fire Away colt was a R700 000 buy from the 2023 National Yearling Sale.

Other promising two-year-olds representing Fire Away this season include G2 TAB SA Nursery winner Fire Attack and exciting filly Spirit Of Levana. Other two-year-old by Fire Away, Chinaberry and French Flame, hold entries in the upcoming G2 Durban Golden Horseshoe.
Fire Away, whose first crop includes graded stakes winners Egyptian Mau and My Golly Molly, has four yearlings on offer at the upcoming KZN Yearling Sale.
