Tuesday double for Fire Away


Wilgerbosdrift’s exciting stallion Fire Away came up with a pair of winners at Fairview on Friday his daughter Fiery Countess won the sixth race and son Tintamarre the next race.
Trained by Gavin Smith, newly turned three-year-old Fiery Countess had run behind some of the country’s top fillies and she duly lived up to expectations in Tuesday’s race.

Under Calvin Habib, Fiery Countess stormed home win the #Youcanbetonus!FM 74 Handicap (1200m) by three parts of a length.

Bred by Hemel ‘N Aarde Stud, the filly races for TKP Racing (Nom: Trevelen Pillay), J G Gomes, M Gwalangwa, D C Stonebridge, Mr & Mrs C R Stonebridge & Miss C Lotz.

Fiery Countess, who had finished second in last season’s Listed East Cape Fillies Nursery, is out of the Silvano mare Home Safe. 
Tuesday’s winner has a Master Of My Fate half-sister on offer at the August Two Year Old Sale.

Fire Away’s second success on Tuesday came when his son Tintamarre won the seventh race on the card.
Also hailing from the Gavin Smith yard, and likewise partnered by Calvin Habib, four-year-old Tintamarre got up in the shadow of the post to win the Racing240 MR 80 Handicap (1400m) by half a length.

Bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein, Tintamarre is unbeaten in two starts in the Eastern Cape.
Owned by Messrs Cornwall, Basel and Clark, Tintamarre is out of the Tiger Ridge mare Oyster Pond.

His sire Fire Away enjoyed a wonderful season in 2024-2025, where his flagbearers included not only the East Cape star My Best Shot but also the G1 winners Confederate (TAB SA Classic) and Fire Attack (HKJC World Pool Premier’s Champions Challenge).By the same sire as recent G1 Arlington Million winner Fort Washington, Fire Away has seven lots on offer at the August Two Year Old Sale.
