Three in a row for Flower Alley filly

Wilgerbosdrift’s Travers Stakes winning sire Flower Alley has an above average daughter in the form of Marygold.
The latter made it three wins in a row when she won over 1600m at Turffontein on Sunday afternoon.

Trained by Alec Laird, four-year-old Marygold was given a positive ride from S’Manga Khumalo, who kept his mount off the front running Sidonie.

When asked the question 400m from home, Marygold hit the front and stayed on gamely to post a one and three quarter length success in the progress plate for fillies and mares.

Bred by the Clifton Stud, Marygold, runner up to subsequent Horse Of The Year Summer Pudding in last season’s G1 Wilgerbosdrift SA Fillies Classic, has now won four of 11 starts and has earned in excess of R450 000.

Her sire Flower Alley went close to enjoying a feature race double at Kenilworth on Saturday with his 3yo daughter Princess Calla finishing third in the G1 Cartier Paddock Stakes and son Azores running finishing third in the G3 Okapi Chairman’s Cup on the same card.
