Wilgerbosdrift’s outstanding broodmare Halfway To Heaven was responsible for a third G1 winner, from as many runners, when her Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein bred son Golden Ducat captured Saturday’s G1 ARF Commemorative Cape Derby (2000m) at Kenilworth.
Trained by Eric Sands, the Wilgerbosdrift owned Golden Ducat made it win number two from just five starts when storming home from off the pace, under Craig Zackey, to claim Saturday’s G1 Cape classic by half a length going away!
A son of Philanthropist, Golden Ducat joins Equus Champion Hawwaam (by Silvano) and G1 Sun Met/G1 WSB Champions Cup winner Rainbow Bridge as G1 winners produced by his magnificent dam, Halfway To Heaven.
Winner of seven races, including both the G3 Prix Du Cap and Off To Stud Handicap, Halfway To Heaven was South Africa’s Broodmare Of The Year last season.
The outstanding daughter of Jet Master has a Silvano colt, named Celestial Cloud, entered for the 2020 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale, with this colt being a full-brother to the aforementioned Hawwaam, who won all of the G1 The Premier’s Champions Challenge, G1 SA Classic and G1 Daily News 2000 last season.
