SOFT FALLING RAIN TOPS CAPE YEARLING SALE

Not for the first time, the progeny of short-lived champion Soft Falling Rain proved popular at the Cape Yearling Sale.

Soft Falling Rain supplied three of the top four lots sold at the recent Cape Yearling Sale, which took place at the Mistico Equestrian Centre on Friday. (The G1 SA Nursery winning sire had previously been responsible for the sales topping yearlings at both the 2018 and 2019 sales respectively).

The 2020 Cape Yearling Sale was topped by the Mauritzfontein consigned Soft Falling Rain colt Edgartown (Lot 104), who was knocked down to Pound Bloodstock for R360 000.

Soft Falling Rain was also responsible for the second top lot sold at Friday’s sale, with his Wilgerbosdrift consigned colt Yoho Mist (Lot 41) also selling to Pound Bloodstock for R300 000, while the Wilgerbosdrift consigned Soft Falling Rain colt Fleur De Terre (Lot 51) was knocked down to trainer Dean Kannemeyer for R250 000.

The ill-fated son of National Assembly ended the 2020 Cape Yearling Sale as the sale’s Leading Sire, with Soft Falling Rain having eight of his nine yearlings offered fetch R1 400 000 in total.

(Wilgerbosdrift also enjoyed a memorable stint at the sale, with the farm ending up as the Leading Vendor at this year’s Cape Yearling Sale.)

Soft Falling Rain, whose eye catching first crop includes G2 Gagasi FM Debutante winner Montreal Mist and G2 Joburg Spring F&M Challenge runner up Gin Fizz, has some smashing yearlings on the upcoming Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale.
