Wilgerbosdrift’s exciting young stallion Fire Away enjoyed a good few days this week, when his daughter Luna Halo won Friday’s Listed Dahlia Plate and son Zil Moris won impressively at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth the following day.
In getting off the mark, Zil Moris became the seventh winner to emerge from Fire Away’s first crop of runners.
A smart runner up last time out, the Brett Crawford trained Zil Moris showed plenty of resolution when running out a convincing winner of Saturday’s Hollywoodbets Kenilworth Welcomes You Restricted Maiden Juvenile Plate (1200m).
Under a confident ride from Louis Mxothwa, the two-year-old raced towards the inside of the track before coming with a late rattle to split runners and win, going away, by a length and three-quarters.
Bred by Cheveley Stud, Zil Moris is out of the Fort Wood mare Valhalla.
The colt was a R130 000 buy from the 2022 Cape Yearling Sale.
His G3 Dixie Stakes winning sire Fire Away, himself a half-brother to G1 winner and G1 sire Mr Speaker, has made a fine start with his first two-year-olds this season. At the time of writing, Fire Away had 13 members of his first crop either win or finish in the money.
A son of outstanding sire War Front, Fire Away has had more two-year-old winners this season than the likes of Rafeef, Trippi and Var thus far.
