Dahlia Plate glory for Fire Away


Wilgerbosdrift’s promising young sire Fire Away had another good result on Friday when his exciting first-crop daughter Luna Halo stormed home to win the Listed Dahlia Plate (1200m) at Fairview.
A winner of two of her three previous races, including the Listed East Cape Fillies Nursery, coming into Friday’s R175 000 juvenile feature, the Alan Greeff trained Luna Halo made it three wins from just four starts with an eye catching performance on Friday.
Under Richard Fourie, Luna Halo came with a powerful late run which saw her get up to beat Cape raider Golden Sickle by a head going away.
Bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein, Luna Halo was a R160 000 purchase from the 2022 National Yearling Sale.

The filly is out of the Captain Al mare Sun Sentinel -whose Flower Alley sired daughter A Place In The Sun had won at Turffontein on Thursday.
Winner of the G3 Dixie Stakes and more than $600 000 in prize money, Fire Away has made an excellent start to his stud career. Luna Halo is one of six early winners for her exciting young sire, with other notable winners including Listed Storm Bird Stakes runner up Fire ‘N Flames, and exciting fillies Egyptian Mau and Rani Of Kittur.

Fire Away, whose promising son And Action caught the eye when finishing third on debut at Turffontein recently , has four yearlings on offer at the upcoming Cape Racing Winter Mixed Sale, and a single filly on sale at the 2023 KZN Yearling Sale.
