Saint Mary’s brother is Awesome again!

Wilgerbosdrift’s beautifully bred young broodmare Saint Mary gained a massive update to her already impeccable pedigree this weekend.

Her top-class half-brother Mubtaahij, who had won the G2 UAE Derby in the care of Mike de Kock, picked up the first G1 victory of his career when the five-year-old stormed home to land the G1 Awesome Again Stakes at Santa Anita on Saturday at the expense of G1 winners Midnight Storm and Cupid.

Mubtaahij, who was now earned in excess of $4.5 million, could now be aimed at the G1 Breeders’ Cup Classic on November 4th.

The entire, who made a winning debut for new trainer Bob Baffert on Saturday, has now won five of his 18 outings with his wins also including Dubai’s Al Bastakiya with Mubtaahij also running second to champion California Chrome in the 2016 Dubai World Cup.

Mubtaahij and Saint Mary are out of the outstanding Pennekamp mare Pennegale, who is also dam of G1 Prix de L’Opera winner Lily Of The Valley (herself dam of Japanese G2 winner Vanquish Run).

This is also the family of French 1000 Guineas runner up Pont-Aven and Italian champion Hero Look.

Saint Mary herself won over 1200m when in the care of trainer Brett Crawford.

Her sire Holy Roman Emperor has already made his mark as a broodmare sire –he is the dam of G1 winners Johannes Vermeer and this season’s exciting Irish 2yo and G1 National Stakes winner Verbal Dexterity, a leading classic hope for next year.
