Wilgerbosdrift’s increasingly successful stallion Buffalo Bill Cody enjoyed feature race success at Turffontein on Saturday.
His son Pistol Pete, a member of his sire’s first crop, picked up the second graded win of his career when he won Saturday’s G3 New Turf Carriers Merchants (1160m) on Betway Summer Cup day.
The Tony Peter trained four-year-old was given a patient ride by Richard Fourie. Fourie bought Pistol Pete with a well timed ride and the pair got up to win Saturday’s R550 000 feature by nearly three-parts of a length.
Owned by Suzette Viljoen, Pistol Pete has won six of 16 starts, with the bay also victorious in the 2024 G3 Betway Lebelo Sprint and 2024 Listed HKJC World Pool Event 6 April Storm Bird Stakes.
Bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein, Pistol Pete, who is out of the Tiger Ridge mare Oklahoma Sky, was a R380 000 buy from the 2023 Cape Yearling Sale.
Buffalo Bill Cody, whose small first crop also included last season’s G1 Mercury Sprint winner Buffalo Storm Cody, also enjoyed success at Fairview on Friday where his son Buffalo Bill won the seventh race on the card.
Trained by Tara Laing, three-year-old Buffalo Bill has finished first, second or third in each of his seven starts with the gelding having won two of his last three starts.
