Hawwaam half-brother off the mark

Wilgerbosdrift’s exciting young stallion Hawwaam gained another boost to his pedigree page, when his half-brother Foudre won at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Wednesday.
A son of Fire Away, the lightly raced Foudre was making his first start since January 2024.

Trained by Eric Sands, the gelding, under Craig Zackey, raced just off the pace early on in Wednesday’s Hollywoodbets Kenilworth Welcomes You Maiden Plate (1200m).

The five-year-old kicked on strongly to win convincingly by a length and a quarter.
Bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein, Foudre races for Khaya Stables.

Foudre, a R1 600 000 buy from the 2022 National Yearling Sale, is the sixth winner for his dam Halfway To Heaven, Champion Broodmare Of The Year in 2018-2019, 2019-2020, and 2020-2021.
A daughter of Jet Master, G3 Prix du Cap winning Halfway To Heaven is also the dam of Equus Champion, and five time G1 winner Hawwaam, dual G1 winner Golden Ducat, and Rainbow Bridge.
The latter, South Africa’s Horse Of The Year in 2020-2021, won 11 races (five G1’s) including the G1 Met in both 2019 and 2021.
