Wilgerbosdrift’s blue blooded young stallion Fire Away gained a further boost to his stallion page when his progressive half-sister Vigilantes Way captured the Miss Liberty Stakes at Monmouth Park on Saturday.
A four-year-old daughter of Medaglia D’Oro, Vigilantes Way claimed her sixth win, from just 14 starts, when she scored a half-length win in Saturday’s turf feature. Despite racing three wide, Vigilantes Way had enough in the tank to withstand the challenge from Miss Teheran and win by half a length.
The filly has now won three black type races, with Vigilantes Way’s previous successes including this year’s G3 Eatontown Stakes.
Fire Away’s G1 Belmont Stakes winning half-brother Mr Speaker also enjoyed success over the weekend, with his son Ironstone capturing the Simcoe Stakes at Woodbine on Sunday.
By the same sire as such successful stallions Declaration Of War and The Factor, Fire Away himself won seven times including the G3 Dixie Stakes and also ran third, to champion and Breeders’ Cup Mile hero World Approval, in the G3 Tampa Bay Stakes.
His first yearlings go on sale in 2022.
