Fourth winner for Soft Falling Rain

Wilgerbosdrift’s short-lived sire Soft Falling Rain has made a big impression with his first two-year-olds this season, and the former Equus Champion was responsible for his fourth first crop winner this weekend when his 2yo son Alramz made a winning debut at Turffontein on Saturday.

Bred by Highlands (also breeders of Soft Falling Rain himself), the two-year-old Alramz showed his class when scoring a 1.9 length win over 1200m on debut as the 13-18 tote favourite.

Out of the Var mare Valdivia, Alramz, an entrant in next Saturday’s G2 SA Nursery, was a R1.4 million buy from the 2018 Cape Premier Yearling Sale.

He follows the likes of Gin Fizz, Pierina and Mawsool as first crop winners by Soft Falling Rain, with Gin Fizz, entered for the G2 SA Fillies Nursery next weekend, having also finished second in both the G3 Pretty Polly and Listed Ruffian Stakes.

South Africa’s Champion 2YO Colt of 2011-2012 , Soft Falling Rain also made his presence felt at last week’s Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale. The son of National Assembly ended the three day sale as the fifth top sire by Aggregate, with Soft Falling Rain’s 22 lots sold grossing R7 360 000.
