Fire Away’s half-brother gets off the mark

Well performed young stallion Mr Speaker, a Pulpit half-brother to Wilgerbosdrift’s exciting new stallion Fire Away, was represented by his first winner, when two-year-old filly Elegancia romped home by six lengths over five furlongs on May 12th.

Elegancia, who was winning on debut, was one of her sire’s very first runners to start.

Her sire Mr Speaker was a millionaire who won graded stakes at two, three and four, with Mr Speaker scoring his biggest victory in the 2014 G1 Belmont Derby Invitational Stakes, where he accounted for subsequent G1 Cox Plate winner Adelaide and G1 winners Gailo Chop, Bobby’s Kitten, and Pornichet.

The talented grandson of unbeaten legend Personal Ensign also captured all of the G2 Commonwealth Cup, G3 Lexington Stakes and G3 Dania Beach Stakes.

In total, Mr Speaker won six times and banked $1 247 544 in prize money.

The promising young sire shares his dam, the G2 placed Unbridled mare Salute, with G3 Dixie Stakes winner and exciting new Cape sire Fire Away.

The latter, a son of outstanding stallion War Front, won seven times during a career which saw Fire Away bank more than $600 000 in stakes.
