Wilgerbosdrift’s promising young stallion Buffalo Bill Cody, whose son Rattlesnake won at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Tuesday, came up with a fourth first-crop winner on Thursday.
His two-year-old daughter Khethiwe’s Destiny, third in her only two starts before Thursday’s race, ran out a convincing winner of the Take A Bet Wina Numba Numba Maiden Juvenile Plate (Fillies) (1200m).
Under Raymond Danielson, the Mike de Kock trained filly stayed on gamely to shed her maiden by two and three-quarter lengths.
Bred by Narrow Creek Stud (also breeders of Buffalo Bill Cody sired winners Buffalo Storm Cody and Rattlesnake), Khethiwe’s Destiny was making just her third start on Thursday.
The filly, who is out of the Gimmethegreenlight mare Gimmethemoney, was a R200 000 purchase from the 2023 Cape Yearling Sale.
Buffalo Bill Cody has made a very pleasing start with his first runners this season and is South Africa’s second leading First Season Sire for 2023-2024.
His other early winners include impressive Listed HKJC World Pool Event 6 April Storm Bird Stakes winner and G2 TAB SA Nursery third Pistol Pete and nine length debut winner Buffalo Storm Cody.
Like outstanding sire Rafeef, Buffalo Bill Cody is a son of Redoute’s Choice who won six of just ten starts. Out of G3 Reeve Schley Jr Stakes winner Buffalo Berry, Buffalo Bill Cody is himself directly descended in female line from the taproot mare Banquet Bell, the dam of Kentucky Derby winner Chateaugay and whose other numerous high-class descendants include G1 King’s Bishop Stakes winner and outstanding sire Hard Spun. The latter, a son of Danzig -grandsire of Redoute’s Choice, has sired more than 100 stakes winners with this tally including such Breeders’ Cup winners as Aloha West and Spun To Run.
