Wilgerbosdrift’s exciting young sire Fire Away made a cracking start with his first two-year-olds last season, and one of his first crop stars looks to be the classy filly Luna Halo.
The latter, an East Cape awards nominee, made it four wins in a row on Friday when Luna Halo ran out a ready winner of the fifth race run at Fairview.
Winner of all of the Listed East Cape Fillies Nursery, Dahlia Plate and Lady’s Slipper Stakes last season, the Alan Greeff trained Luna Halo showed her well being when winning Friday’s Betway We Pay Your Tax On Horse Racing Wins FM 81 Handicap (1600m).
Under Richard Fourie, the three-year-old raced midfield for much of the running in Friday’s race, before powering away to win as she liked by two and a quarter lengths.
Bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein, Luna Halo has now won five of six starts, with her sole defeat coming when fourth in last season’s Bloodstock SA Sales Cup (Fillies).
Luna Halo, who is out of the Captain Al mare Sun Sentinel, was a R160 000 buy from the 2022 National Yearling Sale.
Her G3 Dixie Stakes winning sire Fire Away made a tremendous start to his stud career with the son of War Front’s smart first crop also including G3 World Sports Betting Langerman 1-3 finishers My Golly Molly and Zil Moris, as well as G1 Douglas Whyte Thekwini Stakes runner up Egyptian Mau.
Fire Away had two-year-olds make up to R1 000 000 at the recent August Two Year Old Sale.
