Wilgerbosdrift’s evergreen stallion Flower Alley had another good payday at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Saturday.
His gutsy son Otto Luyken made it back to back feature race wins when victorious in the G3 Magical Zulu Kingdom 2200 (2200m) on Saturday.
Trained by James Crawford, the five-year-old had captured the Listed Pocket Power Stakes last time out.
Despite having a wide trip, Otto Luyken once again showed heart when he dug down to land Saturday’s R300 000 by a neck.
Under Luyolo Mxothwa, the five-year-old put up a bold performance while lugging 61kgs to victory.
Bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein, the chestnut has won five of 27 starts with Otto Luyken having banked more than R800 000 in stakes.
Otto Luyken, who is out of the Ideal World mare Laurel Cherry, was originally knocked down for R180 000 at the 2021 Cape Yearling Sale.
Saturday’s winner, who races for Greg Bortz and Gina Goldsmith, is one of 39 stakes winner for 2005 G1 Travers Stakes winner Flower Alley. The latter is also responsible for such champions as I’ll Have Another, Princess Calla, and Lukes Alley.
