Wilgerbosdrift’s resident stallion Flower Alley was the toast of Fairview racecourse on Friday when his son Firealley won the Listed Betway Algoa Cup, the premier horse-race in the Eastern Cape.
Firealley was his sire’s only runner at Fairview on the day, giving Flower Alley a 100% strike on the day.
Winner of the 2021 G2 Peninsula Handicap, the Jacques Strydom trained Firealley, ridden by Craig Zackey, gained his first success on Polytrack when he stormed home to claim the 2024 Algoa Cup by three parts of a length.
Formerly with Candice Bass-Robinson, Firealley was making his eighth start for Strydom on Friday.
Bred by Drakenstein Stud, Firealley has won 6 races with 14 places from 44 starts for stakes of R869 600. The seven-year-old, inbred to Sadler’s Wells, is out of the Galileo mare Fire Spinner.
Firealley is one of 37 stakes winners for Flower Alley, with this tally including South African Horse Of The Year Princess Calla and G1 Kentucky Derby/Preakness Stakes winning champion I’ll Have Another.
