Fifth winner for Fire Away

Wilgerbosdrift’s hot young stallion Fire Away made it first crop winner number five when his two-year-old daughter Rani Of Kittur made a winning debut at Turffontein on Saturday.

Trained by Roy Magner, Rani Of Kittur was given a well judged ride by Marco Van Rensburg in Saturday’s WSB Spin With The Best Maiden Juvenile Plate (Fillies) (1160m).

Van Rensburg bought his inexperienced mount with a sustained late run, which saw Rani Of Kittur get up in the shadow of the post and down favourite Woman Of Fame by half a length.

Both the winning jockey and trainer were quick to praise their filly after her debut win, and described her as a very nice filly.
Bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein, Rani Of Kittur is out of the Tiger Ridge mare Indira.

The filly was a R600 000 buy from the 2022 August Two Year Old Sale.
She is the fifth first crop winner for her sire, whose son Fire ‘N Flames ran a close second in the Listed Storm Bird Stakes last month.

Fire Away had also enjoyed success at Fairview the day before where his daughter Marshmallow won, at the second time of asking, over 1200 metres.
