Equus award glory for Hawwaam relatives

Wilgerbosdrift’s exciting new stallion Hawwaam gained several significant updates to his pedigree at Tuesday’s evening’s virtual Equus Awards ceremony.
Not only was his dam Halfway To Heaven named Broodmare Of The Year (for a third consecutive season), Hawwaam’s outstanding half-brother Rainbow Bridge was named Horse Of The Year, Champion Older Male, and Champion Middle Distance Horse at Tuesday’s ceremony.

Winner of seven races, including both the G3 Prix du Cap and Listed Off To Stud Handicap, Halfway To Heaven had another fine season in 2020-2021, thanks not only to Rainbow Bridge but also to her top-class son Golden Ducat. The latter, winner of both the G1 ARF Commemorative Cape Derby and G1 World Sports Betting Champions Cup in 2020, captured the G2 Glorious Goodwood Premier Trophy back in January to take his earnings to over R1.2 million.

A son of Ideal World, Hawwaam’s half-brother Rainbow Bridge claimed his second Met when he won January’s G1 Cape Town Met Presented by Cape Racing. The Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein bred gelding, who had preceded his Met win by finishing second in the G1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate, went on to win both the G22 Independent On Saturday Drill Hall Stakes and G1 Hollywoodbets Gold Challenge.

Himself an Equus Champion and five time G1 winner, Silvano’s son Hawwaam is set to stand his first season at Wilgerbosdrift this season.
