DERBY WINNER FOR TIGER RIDGE DAUGHTER

A daughter of Wilgerbosdrift’s successful, but ill-fated, sire Tiger Ridge was in the news this weekend following the running of the California Derby on Saturday.

Tiger Ridge matron Donnie’s Secret is the dam of So Conflated, who provided trainer Doug O’Neill, jockey Mario Gutierrez and owner Reddam Racing LLC their second consecutive win in the California Derby.
So Conflated, a son of Eskendereya –and thus intensely inbred to the great sire Storm Cat,  was sitting fourth behind the favored Vending Machine, who took the lead in the paceless race and was challenged by So Conflated’s stablemate Secret House. Fractions were even through the first six furlongs, with Vending Machine actually running a faster third quarter than second quarter.

When the grey So Conflated finally got room at the quarter pole, he ran on powerfully to post a three parts of a length win at the expense of runner up More Power To Him, with another one and a quarter lengths away to third place finisher Colonel Samsen.

The winner may be aimed at the G3 El Camino Real Derby later in the year.

Now a winner of two of his three starts to date, So Conflated is out of a full sister to the brilliant Leah’s Secret.
The latter won nine times and banked over $1 000 000 in prize money, with her victories including the G2 Raven Run Stakes and the G2 Top Flight Handicap.

Tiger Ridge daughters have been enjoying a good patch of late, with the son of Storm Cat also damsire of impressive recent Listed Sea Cottage Stakes winner Orchid Island.
