10 length win for Fire Away half-sister

Wilgerbosdrift’s well performed young sire Fire Away has an exceptional pedigree, and the son of outstanding sire War Front gained yet another boost when his promising half-sister Vigilantes Way won at Laurel on Friday.

A three-year-old daughter of Medaglia D’Oro, the progressive Vigilantes Way made it win number three, from just five starts, with an authorative win over a mile.
She switched to grass in her latest, rolling to an easy decision in a Colonial allowance July 28. Backed at 2-5 to put them back to back in this off-the-turfer, the ell-bred Phipps homebred tracked the early leaders in third, made her bid at the top of the stretch and left her three rivals in the dust to score by 10 lengths.

Vigilantes Way is one of five winners produced by the Unbridled mare Salute, runner up in the G2 Demoiselle Stakes at two, with Salute also responsible for the high-class Fire Away and G1 Belmont Derby hero Mr Speaker -with the latter sire of this season’s G1 winning filly Speech.

Fire Away, who shares his sire with current boom two-year-old Battleground and 2020 G1 winners Halladay and War Of Will, won seven times, including the G3 Dixie Stakes, while earning over $600 000 in stakes.
