Wilgerbosdrift’s blue blooded sire Hawwaam gained a further update to his pedigree page when his close relative Princess Of Gaul won the G3 SplashOut Prix Du Cap (1400m) at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Saturday.
It was a third graded win for the three-year-old, with Princess Of Gaul also victorious in last season’s G2 World Pool With Race Coast Debutante and this season’s G2 Western Cape Fillies Championship.
Trained by Dean Kannemeyer, the Craig Zackey ridden Princess Of Gaul stormed home to land Saturday’s R250 000 by a head.
Owned by Alac (Pty) Ltd, the Clive Murphy trained filly has won four of eight races for earnings of R893 595.
A half-sister to recent G1 World Pool Cape Flying Championship winner Kingdundee, Princess Of Gaul is very closely related to the Wilgerbosdrift bred and based champion Hawwaam.
Sired by Vercingetorix (whose sire Silvano is also responsible for Hawwaam), Princess Of Gaul’s dam Miss Marmalade is a winning half-sister to G3 Prix Du Cap winner Halfway To Heaven, whose three G1 winners include Equus Champion and five time G1 winner Hawwaam.
Hawwaam, whose two-year-old son Just Carter caught the eye when winning at Fairview on Friday, also enjoyed success at Sunday’s Cape Yearling Sale.
His Wilgerbosdrift consigned son Triton Moon (Lot 46) was sold to JM Racing for R425 000.
