Wilgerbosdrift have a superb draft on offer at the 2017 National Two Year Old Sale in Germiston next week. The farm’s eighteen strong draft is highlighted by offspring of some of Wilgerbosdrift’s very best broodmares.
One such example is lot 423, a colt by bang in form sire Ideal World out of Tiger Ridge’s Listed Oaks Trial winning daughter Ilha Grande, making the colt on offer a half-brother to last season’s G1 SA Fillies Classic winner Orchid Island. Ilha Grande, herself a half-sister to SA Oaks winner Ilha Bela, has already made sales ring history as the dam of the top lot sold at the 2016 National Yearling Sale –definitely a lot to take note of!
Ideal World, sire of leading Equus Award contender Hermoso Mundo and previous Equus Award winner Smart Call, is also the sire of a filly out of the Rich Man’s Gold mare Cosima Liszt, which makes this filly (Lot 327) a half-sister to G1 Summer Cup winning millionaire Wagner and to exported G1 Cape Guineas third Nassa.
Another well bred Ideal World 2yo in the draft is lot 421 –a colt whose dam is a winning half-sister to July winning Equus Champion Eyeofthetiger (Lot 421).
Former G3 Magnolia Handicap winner Quickwood, a nominee at the recent Cape Breeders’ awards for Broodmare Of The Year, is the dam of lot 124, a bay half-sister to high-class fillies Nightingale, winner of the G1 Majorca Stakes, and G2 SA Oaks runner up Oriental Oak.
This filly, a daughter of champion 2yo sire Var, is out of an own sister to exported G1 SA Guineas winner Heir Apparent, and both her sire and broodmare sire topped sires logs in 2016-2017.
World leading sire Pivotal was recently represented by his 26th G1 winner and his G3 Poinsettia Stakes winning daughter Headstrong has a colt on offer by newly crowned South African Champion Sire Silvano (Lot 426).
Proven producer Zanakiya, dam of G1 SA Nursery runner up Ziparana and G3 UAE 2000 Guineas second Zanzamar, has a Byword colt on sale here (Lot 251), while former French champion Byword is also responsible for a colt here out of a winning daughter of world leading sire and French Derby winner Shamardal (Lot 310).
Triple G1 winner Oratorio made a splendid start with his first locally born runners last season (which included G1 Premiers Champion Stakes runner up Ancestry) and the son of Danehill has a bay daughter out of a winning half-sister to dual Guineas winning sire Noordhoek Flyer (Lot 452) here.
Other lots of note in this draft include a Byword filly out of Oaks winner Cyber Cento (Lot 335), an Elusive Fort filly from the family of Flobayou (Lot 197), a Mambo In Seattle half-brother to two stakes winners including Oaks winner Sweetie Pie (Lot 281), and a Jackson colt whose dam is half-sister to G1 Champions Cup winner African Appeal and to the dam of 2017 G1 winner Brave Mary (Lot 326).
