Wilgerbosdrift’s sadly deceased champion Soft Falling Rain had another memorable success when his Shadwell Stud bred son Seven Patriots captured the Egoli Mile (1600m) at Turffontein on Tuesday afternoon.
Trained by Michael and Adam Azzie, the three-year-old Soft Falling Rain colt stayed on strongly under apprentice Jason Gates to land Tuesday’s R135 000 feature by two and a half lengths.
Out of the Hard Spun mare Estidraaj, Seven Patriots has now won or placed in five of just six starts, with the colt having won two of his last three starts.
His globetrotting sire Soft Falling Rain, South Africa’s Champion 2YO Colt of 2012, made an excellent start with his first crop headed by G2 Gagasi FM Debutante winner Montreal Mist, G2 Joburg Spring F&M Challenge runner up Gin Fizz, and the aforementioned Seven Patriots.
The former G1 SA Nursery has also made his mark with his second crop, with Soft Falling Rain already responsible for impressive two-year-old winners Garden Party, Pray For Rain, and Eternal Hope this season.
Soft Falling Rain, whose son Purple Cloud is a runner in Saturday’s G3 KEPU Cape Of Good Hope Nursery, has eight lots on the upcoming Cape Yearling Sale.
