Wilgerbosdrift’s much missed sire Soft Falling Rain was responsible for a ninth first crop winner when his two-year-old son Aqua Delta made a winning debut at the Vaal on Thursday.
Bred by the Cheveley Stud, Aqua Delta was always travelling smoothly, and when jockey Randall Simons asked him to quicken, the Soft Falling Rain colt ran on smartly to score a convincing win over 1200m.
Out of the Poliglote mare Distinta Wells, Aqua Delta was a R130 000 buy from the 2018 National Yearling Sale.
Like his sire, Aqua Delta is trained by Mike de Kock.
He is the ninth first crop winner for Soft Falling Rain –himself the Equus Champion Two Year Old Colt of 2012.
One of 16 G1 winners sired by National Assembly, Soft Falling Rain’s other notable first crop winners this season include G3 Pretty Polly Stakes runner up Gin Fizz, and the likes of G1 contender Alramz, and debut winners Al Jahbath, Mawsool and the aforementioned Aqua Delta.
To date, Soft Falling Rain (who tragically passed away in 2018) has been responsible for 21 runners- of which 14 have either won or finished in the money.
The champion has two colts on offer at the 2019 KZN Yearling Sale, which takes place at the Sibaya Casino next month.
