Deceased champion Soft Falling Rain has some very smart three-year-olds to his name this season, and the former G1 SA Nursery winner supplied another smart looking 3yo winner when his son Al Aasy won first time out at the Vaal on Thursday.
Owned by Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid al Maktoum and trained by Mike de Kock, as was Soft Falling Rain, Al Aasy was sent off tote favourite for Thursday’s third race and duly obliged.
Under jockey Callan Murray, the colt fought off a wall of challenges before going on to post a one and a quarter length debut win over 1200m.
The Shadwell Stud bred Al Aasy is out of the Captain Al mare Captain’s Song.
He joins the likes of G1 Golden Horse Medallion runner up Pray For Rain, the promising Nafoorah (a winner of two of only three starts), Sophomore Sprint third Purple Cloud and the stakes placed Eternal Hope as above average three-year-olds representing Soft Falling Rain.
The latter, whose first crop yielded graded stakes winners Montreal Mist and World Radar as well as the high-class filly Gin Fizz, has seven lots on offer at the upcoming Emperors Palace National 2YO Sale.
