Wilgerbosdrift’s inform sire Flower Alley had another notable double at Turffontein on Saturday, with his Banha Bridge and Pomander both winning their respective races.
Flower Alley only had three runners at Turffontein on Saturday, with his other runner, G3 The Citizen Fillies Mile runner up Keep Smiling, finishing fourth over 2000 metres.
Bred by James Armitage, three-year-old Banha Bridge got off the mark at just the third time of asking when scoring by three-parts of a length over 2000m on Saturday. Trained by Candice Dawson, the Flower Alley colt (third on debut) was ridden to victory by Raymond Danielson.
Banha Bridge’s paternal half-sister Pomander provided Flower Alley with the second leg of a South African double when the three-year-old Mike de Kock trained filly won the fifth race on Saturday, a graduation plate over 2000m. Ridden by Warren Kennedy, Pomander powered clear to account for the very promising By Chance by just under half a length, while winning for a second time in her last three starts. Bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein, Pomader was produced by the Black Minnaloushe mare Pure Spice.
Flower Alley’s first local crop now includes 21 winners, with his early South African starters including the likes of Derby hope Parterre and smart fillies Marygold and Keep Smiling. (Another from his first local crop is the smart Rock Aloe –a winner of three of only four starts).
The sire of more than 40 black type horses (including G1 winners I’ll Have Another, Bullards Alley, Lilacs And Lace, and Lukes Alley), Flower Alley has four lots on the upcoming Cape Premier Yearling Sale, and a further seven yearlings on February’s Cape Yearling Sale.
