Langerman triumph for Fire Away

Wilgerbosdrift’s blue blooded young sire Fire Away has made a very pleasing start with his first two-year-olds this season, and the War Front horse came up with his first graded stakes winner when his son My Golly Molly captured the G3 World Sports Betting Langerman (1500m) at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Saturday afternoon.

The 2023 Langerman proved a real triumph for Fire Away, with sons My Golly Molly and Zil Moris finishing first and third respectively.

Trained by Eric Sands, My Golly Molly had broken his maiden at the third time of asking, before finishing a disappointing next time out. The Fire Away colt, however, proved that run all wrong when he ran out a courageous winner of Saturday’s G3 Langerman.

Under a strong ride from Sean Veale, My Golly Molly overcame a tardy start when flying home, from the back of the field, to get up in the shadow of the post and score by a short-head.

His paternal half-brother Zil Moris caught the eye when staying on nicely for third spot.

Bred by Wicklow Stud, My Golly Molly, who has now won twice from just five starts, is out of the Western Winter mare Molly R.

The 2023 Langerman winner was a R200 000 purchase from the 2022 National Yearling Sale.

My Golly Molly, one of ten winners thus far to emerge from Fire Away’s first crop, joins Listed East Cape Fillies Nursery/Listed Dahlia Plate/Listed Lady’s Slipper Stakes heroine Luna Halo as early stakes winners for Fire Away.

The latter’s hugely promising first crop also includes Listed Storm Bird Stakes runner up Fire ‘N Flames and G2 Zulu Kingdom Explorer Golden Slipper third place finisher Egyptian Mau. The latter is a runner in Sunday’s G1 Douglas Whyte Stakes.
Fire Away is also the sire of promising gelding Down By The River, who lines up in Sunday’s G1 World Pool Moment Of The Day Champion Stakes.
