Wilgerbosdrift’s promising sire Fire Away had a good day at Fairview on Friday. Not only did Fire Away filly Luna Halo win the Lady’s Bracelet, but a son of Fire Away won the second race.
Star four-year-old Luna Halo won her tenth race, from 19 starts, when she won Friday’s Non-Black Type feature.
Under regular rider Richard Fourie, the Alan Greeff trained filly was always travelling well in the Lady’s Bracelet, and when asked the question, went away to score a shade comfortably by three parts of a length.
Bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein, Luna Halo took her earnings to well over R900 000 with her latest success.
The filly, who is out of the Captain Al mare Sun Sentinel, has won four black type races -the 2024 Breeders Guineas, 2023 Listed East Cape Fillies Nursery, 2023 Listed Dahlia Plate, and 2023 Listed Lady’s Slipper Stakes.
Luna Halo was a R160 000 purchase from the 2022 National Yearling Sale.
Fire Away, who had a 100% strike rate at Fairview on Friday, is also the sire of the lightly raced Lanciafiamme, who got off the mark when victorious in Friday’s second race.
The Cliffie Miller trained three-year-old, making just his second start, stormed home down the outside to get up and win the Racing240 For Racing. For You Maiden Plate (1400m) going away.
Bred by Piemonte Stud, Lanciafiamme is out of the Noble Tune mare Abelie.
His G3 Dixie Stakes winning sire has made a smashing start to his stud career, with Fire Away’s first crop producing four stakes winners and a further four stakes placed runners.
Fire Away’s second crop is headed by G2 TAB SA Nursery winner and G2 Betway Dingaans runner up Fire Attack, as well as a host of highly regarded sorts.
