Wilgerbosdrift’s exciting sire Fire Away looks to have a very progressive three-year-old to his name in the form of My Best Shot.
The latter made it back to back wins when winning impressively at Fairview on Friday, with My Best Shot having won four of his last six starts.
A close up third in last season’s Listed Champion Juvenile Cup, the Alan Greeff trained My Best Shot was sent off 5-10 favourite for Friday’s Racehorse Owners Association Plate (1400m).
Under Richard Fourie, the Fire Away colt raced in third place early on Friday’s race, before storming away to win a shade cosily by a length and a quarter.
Bred by Varsfontein Stud, My Best Shot is out of the Fort Wood mare Gypsy Madonna.
The colt was a R120 000 buy from the 2023 Cape Yearling Sale.
His G3 Dixie Stakes winning sire Fire Away is also sire of the Greeff trained multiple stakes winner Luna Halo, who finished a good third in the recent Listed East Cape Paddock Stakes.
Fire Away is a son of outstanding stallion War Front, with that son of Danzig having sired 118 stakes winners, of which 25 are Grade/Group One winners.
