Wilgerbosdrift’s exciting young sire Hawwaam made a big impression with his first yearlings to go through the ring at Thursday’s Cape Racing Premier Yearling Sale Powered By Tattersalls.
The champion son of Silvano ended the Premier Sale as Leading First Season Sire by Aggregate, with Hawwaam yearlings grossing R5 100 000 at the one day sale.
Hawwaam’s Premier Sale aggregate was higher than such proven stallions as Trippi, Querari, What A Winter and The United States, with Hawwaam’s yearlings averaging an impressive R566 667 -a great start for the Wilgerbosdrift bred and based champion!
The son of Silvano’s top lot was the Maine Chance Farms consigned colt Pivotal Role (Lot 63), who was sold to Justin Vermaak for R2 000 000.
Out of the Captain Al sired G2 Sceptre Stakes winner Princess Royal, the regally bred Pivotal Role is a half-brother to two winners, notably South Africa’s reigning Horse Of The Year, and four time G1 winner, Princess Calla.
Hawwaam had two other yearlings make R500 000 apiece, with Hawwaam colt Read All About (Lot 59) was knocked down to Yolo Thoroughbreds for R450 000.
Equus Champion 3YO Colt of 2018-2019, Hawwaam won ten of just 13 starts, with his five G1 victories including a score in the 2019 G1 Daily News 2000, a race won previously by such top-class stallions as Dynasty and Hawwaam’s paternal half-brother Vercingetorix.
Hawwaam has two lots on offer at the 2024 Cape Yearling Sale -a filly (Lot 79) from the same female line as Australian Horse Of The Year Anamoe, and a colt (Lot 107) bred on similar lines to the Silvano sired G1 winner Nightingale.
