A colt, from the immediate family of Wilgerbosdrift’s well bred new sire Fire Away, proved popular at the third day of trading at Keeneland’s September Yearling Sale on Wednesday.
Consigned by Dromoland Farm, Agent IV, the Into Mischief colt (Lot 532) was knocked down to Godolphin for $850 000 making him one of the top colts sold on Wednesday’s sale.
He is out of the stakes placed Distorted Humor mare Mary Rita, whose granddam is unbeaten G1 Breeders’ Cup Distaff winning champion and former US Broodmare Of The Year Personal Ensign.
The latter, also granddam of Fire Away himself, was an exceptional producer whose progeny include the G1 winners My Flag, Traditionally and Miner’s Mark, as well as G1 Carter Handicap second Our Emblem –sire of Kentucky Derby winning champion War Emblem.
Other notable descendants of Personal Ensign include War Front and his G1 winning half-brother Mr Speaker (currently a prominent first-crop sire), champion and Breeders’ Cup winner Storm Flag Flying, and G1 Clark Handicap hero Seeking The Soul.
Dromoland’s Gerry Dilger said of the colt, “”He was a nice, neat horse, well put together, I thought. I thought he would go on and do well and he did.”
Fire Away, whose outstanding sire War Front has had yearlings make up to $2.9 million at this year’s Keeneland September Sale, was a high-class performer whose seven victories including a trio of stakes wins notably a score in the G3 Dixie Stakes.
