G3 success for Fire Away sister

Vigilantes Way, a half-sister to Wilgerbosdrift’s well performed young stallion Fire Away, made headlines at Monmouth Park on Sunday.
The four-year-old daughter of Medalia D’Oro and the blue blooded Unbridled mare Salute claimed her first graded race victory when storming home to post an impressive win in Sunday’s G3 Eatontown Stakes (1700m).

Ridden for speed early to avoid getting trapped too wide from her high draw, Vigilantes Way pressed Valletta from the outside. She asserted herself after six panels before powering away to score by two and a quarter lengths.
Now a five time winner from 12 starts (her previous wins included the 2020 Tropical Park Oaks), Vigilantes Way is trained by Shug McGaughey.

The latter said after his charge’s impressive win, “Getting a graded stakes win is important, especially for a filly with a pedigree like hers. It’s as good a pedigree as you are going to find. So now she’s a graded stakeswinner. Hopefully it might lead something even better.”

Vigilantes Way, whose dam Salute was runner up in the G2 Demoiselle Stakes, is a half-sister to not only G3 Dixie Stakes winning sire Fire Away but also to G1 Belmont Derby winner, and G1 sire, Mr Speaker.

Granddam is none other than unbeaten champion, and G1 Breeders’ Cup Distaff winner, Personal Ensign -US’s Broodmare Of The Year in 1996.
