Wilgerbosdrift’s exciting sire Flower Alley is set to be represented by runners in two major US feature races this weekend. His son Lukes Alley will bid to defend his crown when he lines up in Saturday’s G1 Gulfstream Park Handicap, run over 1800m on turf.
Canada’s Champion Older Male in 2014, Lukes Alley has eight of 16 outings and earned over $760 000 in prize money.
The entire will be looking to become the first since Einstein to win the race on more than one occasion.
Flower Alley’s other US graded runner this Saturday is Autumn Flower, one of six females set to do battle in the G2 Santa Maria Stakes, run over 1700m at Santa Anita.
Her opponents include former Mike de Kock trained Vale Dori, who has won her last three in a row, and vanquished Autumn Flower into third when the pair met in the G2 La Canada Stakes.
Flower Alley, whose first South African foals arrived last year, has been enjoying a consistent stream of winners in North America this year and currently ranks above the likes of Munnings, Awesome Again and More Than Ready on the US General Sires List.
