Flower Alley grandson scores in Japan

Wilgerbosdrift’s resident sire Flower Alley has been making his presence felt in Japan of late.

Just last week Sunday, Flower Alley’s granddaughter Lucky Lilac captured the G1 Queen Elizabeth II Cup at Kyoto, while this Sunday saw four-year-old Meiner Yukitsubaki (a son of Flower Alley’s champion son I’ll Have Another) win the Fukushima Minyu Cup at Fukushima.

Out of the Zenno Rob Roy mare White Meteor (whose dam Gaviola is a half-sister to South African broodmare Martita), Meiner Yukitsubaki ran out a three-parts of a length winner of Sunday’s 1700m race, while landing the first prize of ¥23 343 000.

The I’ll Have Another colt has now won five times for earnings in excess of ¥91 000 000.

Meiner Yukitsubaki’s sire I’ll Have Another was North America’s Eclipse Champion Three-Year-Old Male of 2012, and won five of only seven starts including both the G1 Kentucky Derby and G1 Preakness Stakes.

I’ll Have Another, in turn, is one of more than 40 stakes winners sired by Wilgerbosdrift’s resident sire, and former G1 Travers Stakes winner, Flower Alley.

The latter, who hails from the same family as influential champion sire Lyphard, has five lots on offer at Friday’s CTS Ready To Run Sale.
