Wilgerbosdrift’s inform sire Flower Alley looks to have a top-class filly to his name in the form of Maharanee.
The latter, a two-year-old bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein, made it four wins from four starts when winning the WSB.co.za Highveld Winter Juvenile Fillies Stakes (1400m) at Turffontein on Sunday.
Trained by Paul Peter, Maharanee came into Sunday’s race off a three and three quarter length winner of the G2 4Racing SA Fillies Nursery and was duly sent off a hot 4-10 tote favourite for Sunday’s R150 000 race.
Under Warren Kennedy, Maharanee went out to make all the running, and she kept finding more in front to post a two length win.
It was a fine effort from the filly, as Maharanee was conceding no less than 7kgs to the runner up Intoxicating.
The 2022 Highveld Winter Juvenile Fillies Stakes was a double triumph for Flower Alley, who was also responsible for third place getter None Other.
Out of the Tiger Ridge mare Indira, Maharanee was an R80 000 buy from the 2021 August Two Year Old Sale.
She is one of 31 stakes winners for former G1 Travers Stakes winner Flower Alley, whose other notable daughters include this season’s G1 HSH Princess Charlene Empress Club Stakes winner Princess Calla.
From the same female line as Saturday’s G1 Ogden Phipps Handicap queen Clairiere, Flower Alley is currently eighth on South Africa’s General Sires List for 2021-2022.
