Sky Flower, a four-year-old daughter of Wilgerbosdrift’s exciting sire Flower Alley, impressed with her first feature race win on Saturday.
Trained by Gerald Brookes, Sky Flower landed the Latonia Stakes, over 1600m, at Turfway Park in eye catching fashion, despite being bumped at the start. The filly put a length and a quarter between herself and favoured runner up Purely A Dream to register her first feature race victory.
Sky Flower has now won or placed in four stakes races.
Now a nine time winner, Sky Flower was produced by the Sky Mesa mare Sapphire Sky.
She is the 20th stakes winner for Flower Alley, whose other notable winners including Kentucky Derby winning champion I’ll Have Another and Canadian champion Lukes Alley.
He is also sire of current high class turf campaigners Bullards Alley and Nessy, with the latter finishing third, to G1 winner Sadler’s Joy, in the recent G2 Mac Diarmida Stakes.
Flower Alley is also enjoying plenty of success as a broodmare sire with daughters Daisy and Lucky Lilac likely contenders for the 2018 G1 Kentucky Oaks and G1 Oka Sho (Japanese 1000 Guineas) respectively.
Winner of the 2005 G1 Travers Stakes and runner up in that year’s G1 Breeders’ Cup Classic, Flower Alley has five lots on the 2018 April Yearling Sale and 32 yearlings on the 2018 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale.
