Fire Away’s half sister off the mark

Wilgerbosdrift’s exciting young War Front stallion Fire Away gained a further boost to his pedigree page when his three-year-old half-sister Vigilantes Way got off the mark on Saturday.

Third on debut, Vigilantes Way showed speed between rivals before taking over and sneaking away a bit midway down the backside. Favorite EstiloTalentoso attempted to make a race of it heading for home, but Vigilantes Way had more to give and reported home 2 1/4 lengths to the good while landing a maiden over seven furlongs at Tampa Bay Downs.

A daughter of Medaglia D’Oro, Vigilantes Way is the fifth winner produced by smart Unbridled mare Salute, who was runner up in the 2 Demoiselle Stakes and third in the G3 Tempted Stakes at two.

Herself a daughter of unbeaten Breeders’ Cup Distaff winner Personal Ensign, Salute has made her mark at stud as the dam of G1 Belmont Derby winner Mr Salute and G3 Dixie Stakes winner Fire Away.

Mr Speaker, who earned over $1.2 million in prize money, has made a pleasing start to his stud career and is currently one of the leading Second Crop Sires in North America.

His half-brother Fire Away, a triple stakes winner who earned over $600 000 on the track, shares his outstanding sire War Front with such high-class stallions as Declaration Of War and The Factor, as well as exciting young sires Airforce Blue, Omaha Beach and US Navy Flag.
